If you follow our YouTube channel, you know that my wife Susan and I have been sharing our coming out story. Last week, Susan shared her coming out experience and, well, this week was my turn.
I was a little hesitant to share my coming out story because unlike Susan’s experience and many LGBT individuals, my parents took me coming out as lesbian extremely well. I was loved and accepted immediately. However, I decided to go ahead and share my story for one reason: just like every other LGBT person, I was terrified to come out — even when I knew my parents are super liberal and have gay friends.
Although we fear if our families and friends will accept us as LGBTQ, the scariest part of coming out is stepping into our own truth and admitting to ourselves and the world, that this is who I am. We’ve been taught that we are not the “norm” and with that comes fear that who we are isn’t “right” or “enough.” So that to me is the hardest part about coming out — accepting that we are enough, that this is who we are, that there is no “norm,” and that we are human and we deserve to love and be loved.
I hope you enjoy my coming out story below. Don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel!
