After the end of a 14 year marriage, Christian mom blogger and author of Oprah Winfrey-approved memoir, “Love Warrior,” Glennon Doyle Melton, has found love again…in soccer player Abby Wambach.
“I am in love,” Melton wrote. “And I’m really, deeply happy.”
Melton divorced from her husband Craig Melton three months ago and Wambach separated from her wife Sarah Huffman two months ago. According to the post, Melton said her ex-husband is just as happy.
“He’s dating too — and we are both supportive of each other’s relationships,” Melton wrote of Craig. “After I told Craig, the first thing he said was: Holy s—t. Is this what all the Indigo Girls has been about? I said, WOAH. I DON’T KNOW…MAYBE?”
Melton is an author, activist and founder of momastery.com and Together Rising, a non-profit for women and children in crisis.
On Momastery, Melton talks about her 20 year battle with bulimia, alcoholism and drugs. On Mother’s Day 2002 she “found myself holding a positive pregnancy test,” Melton said. “For the first time in my life – I wanted something more than I wanted to be numb. I decided to become a mother and vowed to never again have another drink, cigarette, drug, unhealthy relationship, or food binge. I found myself marrying my son’s father.”
Melton has three children with Craig. According to her Facebook post, they love Wambach as well.
“How are the kids? I’ll let them speak for themselves, or not,” she wrote. “I can tell you that as usual, we’re walking through this together. They have the love and support of their dad, me, their grandparents, their aunts and uncles, their church, their teachers, their friends’ families – all of whom have fallen as hard for Abby as they have.”
According to Melton, the family all get together for family dinners and go to school events together as well.
“We are a modern, beautiful family,” Melton wrote. “Out children are loved. So loved. And because of that love, they are brave.”
In April, Wambach was arrested for driving under the influence after she ran a red light in Portland.
“Last night I was arrested for a DUII in Portland after dinner at a friend’s house,” Wambach said in a Facebook post. “Those who know me, know that I have always demanded excellence from myself. I have let myself and others down. I take full responsibility for my actions. This is all on me. I promise that I will do whatever it takes to ensure that my horrible mistake is never repeated. I am so sorry to my family, friends, fans and those that look to follow a better example.”
According to TMZ, Wambach said she has been “totally sober” since her arrest.
Though Wambach has yet to comment publicly about her new relationship, she did share an Instagram post of the two with the caption, “<3 <3 <3 so so happy!”
