“Let toys be toys,” has been an anthem for many in 2016, and we’re happy to see it going strong as we move closer to the new year. Audi Spain created an animated ad for YouTube on December 17 that breaks the stereotypes associated with toys and we are too thrilled.
The commercial is set in a toy store after hours that has been separated by toy stereotypes — one side of the aisle is pink for “girls” and the other side is color coded blue for “boys.” Within the ad, the toys “come to life” at night and we follow a doll who wants to drive a car versus being pulled in a carriage. She ditches her “girl” side of the aisle to find an Audi car on the other side of the aisle to drive.
At the end of the commercial, when the lights turn on and customers arrive, one boy breaks all stereotypes associated with toys by choosing the doll and the Audi car — something his mother says “don’t go together.”
But the boy, like all kids innately know — toys are just toys and they’re best played without gender stereotypes.
