Yesterday was IDAHOT or International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.
“The Day represents an annual landmark to draw the attention of decision makers, the media, the public, opinion leaders and local authorities to the alarming situation faced by lesbian, gay, bisexuals, transgender and intersex people and all those who do not conform to majority sexual and gender norms,” says the IDAHOT website.
Every year, IDAHOT focuses on a different theme and this year’s theme was “families.” The theme encompassed both the rights of LGBT families and the well-being, love, and acceptance of LGBT youth or LGBT individuals within their families.
This holiday is celebrated by millions across the world every year and this year was no different. We chose some of our favorite IDAHOT family-themed posts on social media to share with you. Check them out below:

We love this post that when translated, reads: “Our happiness, our love, is stronger than any kind of hate!”
Or this tear-jerking video posted by the United Nations that shows a father accepting his son…
“An important reminder from #UnitedNations Free & Equal that culture & tradition should bring us together, not drive us apart”. –UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Watch this new video & show your support for today’s International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia! “To those who claim that protecting dominant culture and tradition sometimes requires denying equal rights to LGBTI people, the UN has a simple message: culture and tradition should bring us together, not drive us apart,” said UN Free & Equal’s Charles Radcliffe. Free & Equal is an unprecedented UN global campaign for equal rights and fair treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people everywhere. 📹: @free.equal #CultureOfLove #LGBTI #IDAHOT

And how great are these throwback pictures? We especially love the message that accompanies them: “#IDAHOT always makes me thankful for the amazing family and friends I have, if every person was as beautiful a human as you are this day wouldn’t be necessary. Thank You!…#HoneyIamFabulous always have been, always will be and you can never take that away from me! #AQueenSince95”
#IDAHOT always makes me thankful for the amazing family and friends I have, if every person was as beautiful a human as you are this day wouldn’t be necessary. Thank You! You make life easier amongst the bigots that refuse our right to marry, put us in concentration camps or make our love illegal. To them I say #HoneyIamFabulous always have been, always will be and you can never take that away from me! #AQueenSince95 😘❤💛💚💙💜 #idahobit #gaypride #gaysuperpower #lovemakesafamily #equality #love #gaypower #equalityaustralia #gayman #equalitysrilanka #dragqueen #lovewins
And you we can’t forget the family photos of families all over the world celebrating IDAHOT…
Like this mom and son…
Or this two mom family…
And especially this family with two trans kids, showing their love on IDAHOT!
Today is the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia. As a global movement, this year in 2017, FAMILY was selected as the theme for #IDAHOT. Two of our 4 amazing children are transgender. Today we salute all of our incredible trans families, for the journey they face together so bravely and the loving support they provide their children and loved ones to empower them to live freely as their true selves in equality. #IDAHOT #transfamilies #twcm #billc16
And this one! We totally agree with the caption — every day should be IDAHOT! <3
