Lily Tomlin interview 2011

She’s been the recipient of numerous Emmy, Tony, Grammy, and other distinguished awards in the entertainment industry in which she has played an important part for over 45 years on various stages.

Actress and comedienne Lily Tomin has worked alongside some of the very best talents in the history of television, film and all other areas of media. The characters she’s created still live in all of our hearts (remember “Edith Ann” and “Ernestein” from Laugh-In?). The Detroit native struck gold in the hilariously popular 9 to 5 with Dolly Parton and Jane Fonda. From there, she went on to win our hearts repeatedly with The Incredible Shrinking Woman and opposite Bette Midler in Big Business.

"L Word" Laurel Holloman

She embraced our hearts opposite Jennifer Beals in the hit lesbian Showtime series The L Word before taking a little time off to dive into motherhood full-time (she has two daughters, Lola and Nala, with ex-husband architect Paul Macherey) and re-discover her artistic gift as a painter. Laurel Holloman is at once a beautiful actress, exquisite painter, and devoted mother. This winter, The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love star will be visiting The Dinah in Palm Springs. She gave me a call last Saturday to discuss her passions, artistic wanderings, and future plans.

Interview: Chely Wright Speaks Candidly

out lesbian country singer

Country music singer/songwriter and out-lesbian Chely Wright chatted exclusively with The Seattle Lesbian’s Sarah Toce to discuss the timely topics of bullying, suicide, Congress, God, and the ever-interesting Gay Pride celebration. The interview will make you laugh and, at times, possibly cry. Wright holds nothing back in this interview and TSL loves her for it. We know you will, too.

TSL: How is everything going for you, Ms. Chely?

CW: I’m busy as, you know, I tend to be! I’ve been doing book tours, a couple of shows, public speaking, writing songs, and staying busy.

TSL: I am sure you’ve heard about all of the recent teen gay suicides. What are your thoughts on all of it?

CW: Well, gosh…I mean, obviously those of us in the LGBT community know that this is not a new issue. The recent tragedies are highlighting something that’s been going on in our community for so long. If I were to say that there was an upside to what’s happening – which is really a stretch to glean an upside to all of this – it would be that we now have the national media’s attention and, with that, we are able to speak to America. I don’t think there is a person irrespective of a religious viewpoint or a cultural viewpoint who could look at what is going on and make the determination that any young person should be hanging themselves or jumping off of a bridge for any reason whatsoever and that is what is moving the chain forward in the discussion. Now, it’s awful. I mean, it’s just absolutely awful that young people are still feeling marginalized, but this doesn’t shock me.

David and Victoria Beckham

David and Victoria Beckham are expecting their fourth child this summer. This 36-year-old woman wants her girl damn it! Can you imagine if she has another boy? I know, as long as the baby is healthy they don’t care. Married for 11 years, they have three adorable sons, ages 11, 8 and 5 1/2. A brave woman I say.

G: First off, let’s talk about this photo shoot. I don’t recall you doing these kinds of photos in your twenties. Do you feel sexier at 34 than you did a decade ago?
REESE: Much. I was always, as a younger actress, very conscious of not wanting to act sexy. I didn’t see myself like that. But I think as a woman, you get older, you feel more confident in your sexuality. You’re not as intimidated by it, not as embarrassed by it. Sexuality and femininity is an accumulation of age and wisdom and comfort in your own skin. I feel better—so much better now than I ever did in my twenties. I am calmer; I know who I am. And as a result, I feel much sexier.

Check out more photos of the shoot

G: You won the Oscar in 2006 [for Walk the Line], but there’s obviously still a part of you that loves doing romantic comedies
