JAMES: My partner and I were married in Washington DC and have been together for 6 years. We have one child, a daughter, who is one year old. We would like at least 1 more child.
TNF: How did you meet your husband?
JAMES: We met through a mutual acquaintance and our first date was a blind date.
TNF: Do you feel different from other families? If so, how so?
JAMES: To be honest, no. Maybe that is naïve, but at this point, not at all. We have the same hopes, dreams, fears, anxieties that all parents have with their children. The same worries, the same excitement as they reach their milestones. Granted, our daughter has 2 dads and we’ll have to face that fact…but there are many families out there that are different than other families. So we feel just like every other family…because every other family is indeed different.
TNF: Where do you live? Is it tough being a gay couple where you live?
JAMES: We live in Houston, Texas. Luckily, we live in a very large city that is fairly liberal and we live amongst family and friends that are extremely very accepting.
TNF: What has having a family meant to you?
JAMES: Having a family has added so much more joy and happiness into our lives that we didn’t think was possible. It is about sharing in encouragement, understanding, hope, bringing comfort, advice, values, morals, ideas, and faith to one another. It is forming tradition.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful family with us!
