My daughter, Eva, and her classmates worked hard last week to prepare for this year’s Mother’s Day breakfast. Since Eva has two mamas, I imagine she worked twice as hard; it totally paid off. My partner became teary when she found two homemade placemats sitting side by side, with two small bouquets of flowers waiting for each of us. It was overwhelming to be one of two mamas, looking at four gifts and one little girl who couldn’t wait to give them to us.
We had no idea what would be presented to us, but that was never the point. Being a mom is a gift in itself, and seeing the pride our daughter has in us surpasses anything her tiny hands can make.
Knowing we have taught her kindness, acceptance, and empathy are also pretty high on our list. Apparently, she has learned a few other things from us too. Some lessons were taken out of context and others were misunderstood, but the fact that she is paying attention is rewarding.
Here are 10 of her Instagram posts that let me know I am doing okay at this parenting thing.
