It has been one year since I have taken my wife and kids on a video journey to share our family story with YouTube and our readers. There weren’t that many families like ours in the YouTube space and we thought it would be an opportunity to help share and normalize LGBT parents. What I didn’t expect was the outpour of emotion that we would receive from our viewers. We have gotten comments from LGBTQ youth around the world, some in countries where it is extremely unsafe for them to be out and live the life they want, and their letters have been astounding. They are grateful, sad, hopeful, and more than anything happy to see that they are not alone in their struggle. After having read these personal letters we will continue creating this video content in hopes that others will benefit from realizing that there is life beyond coming out. It has been a real reminder to me how lucky we are in this country and how far we have to go. We must remember that there are a world of people out there that cannot be with the one they love because it is a true threat to their safety and our voices can and do help them.
Here is a summary of our year.
To those that have written in with your powerful stories, we cannot thank you enough for being open and honest and we are fighting for you in our own way. Find a way to live your truth, it will set you free.
