The trailer for Finding Dory released immense excitement across the Internet when viewers saw what looked like lesbian moms. In a USA Today interview with Ellen DeGeneres, DeGeneres was unable to confirm if the two women in the trailer were actually lesbian moms.
“I don’t know if it’s true or not, or if she has a bad short haircut. Who knows if she is a lesbian?” said DeGeneres.
However, DeGeneres did provide some amazing insider news about the film. There’s a transgender character!
DeGeneres said, “But actually I’ll tell you a little secret. There’s a stingray that’s becoming sting-Rhonda, so there’s a trans sting in the movie.”
Cue: Head explodes!
There’s too few Disney or kid-friendly films with LGBTQ characters, so for Finding Dory — a film with huge expectations — to have a transgender character, well, that’s an amazing move forward.
Finding Dory has a release date for June 17, 2016.
