This Sunday, June 26th, will be the first anniversary of the Supreme Court case, Obergefell v. Hodges which ruled in favor of marriage equality across the United States. Since then, it has been a wonderful year full of weddings in the LGBT community.
Granted, the last year hasn’t been without its struggles — the fight against Kim Davis and the Orlando shooting — but despite all that, the LGBT community stands strong in the belief that love will always win. So it is, that this music video comes along at the best time.
“Sing Along,” was written and performed by Susan Howard, wife to Brandy Black, the founder of The Next Family, and a fan favorite of The Next Family’s YouTube channel. One of her songs, “Make it Red,” was recently featured in the 2016 film, Mother’s Day, and YouTube subscribers often hear many of her songs in The Next Family’s videos.
The “Sing Along” music video doesn’t just feature Howard’s amazing musical skills, but it tells a story of love and what better time to share it with audiences than during the upcoming week of the marriage equality anniversary.
The tune is lighthearted and fun — a perfect song for summer. The lyrics tell the story of a love that grows with age and experience, easily reminding you of the one you love:
“Ain’t much time left. It’s always the best. I reach out my hand. Will you, will you carry on?”
“When I’m old. Tired bones. Singing songs, no one knows. Will you, will you sing along?
The music video features photos and clips of the Howard-Black family, from the moment that Brandy Black and Susan Howard married, to videos within the last year. Watching the couple swing together on a large swing, and smile and look at each other with love — well, it’s a good reminder that this world is more beautiful with marriage equality.
