One of the most heartwarming things to see on the Internet today is commercials that feature LGBT families, especially when those commercials feature people from different countries throughout the world, countries in which LGBT people might not have rights to marriage or adoption.
Check out the newest commercial by Smart Communications, a Filipino-based cell phone provider. It features the story of a father asking to be friends with his son on Facebook. His son, who is gay, is unsure whether to accept his father’s friend request as his Facebook features photos of him and his partner. His father even asks over a large family dinner why his son has not accepted him. Eventually the son accepts his father’s friend request, and gets a loving message of his father’s acceptance.
This commercial is especially wonderful in that the Philippines is a conservative country with a Catholic base. Since the ad was posted to Facebook, it’s received overwhelming positive messages, with many applauding Smart Communications for taking on the task.
The caption for the video read: “It takes courage to break down barriers. It takes strength to overcome differences.”
Already it’s been shared over 28K times and has 40K likes. Check out the heartwarming ad below:
