Diver Tom Daley had the coming out experience that all LGBT persons hope for.
After getting in a relationship with Dustin Lance Black, Daley felt more confident in who he was and his ability to come out to his family. He came out to his mother at a birthday celebration where he had invited Black to.
Daley told The Times. “My mum had no idea. It was just a random conversation. We were having a barbecue at my house, Lance was making burgers and I was in the kitchen.”
Daley said to mother, “What do you think of Lance?” To which she replied, “Yeah, he’s great. He makes great burgers.” He then told his mother that Black was his boyfriend.
“She said, ‘Like a gay relationship?’ And I said, ‘Yeah’. And she said, ‘Oh… all right’,” Daley said. Talk about a great experience!
“You always think it is going to be the worst thing in the world to tell someone,” Daley added. “But that put it into perspective.”
In addition to helping him to come out, Daley also attributes Black as to why he is still diving and doing well.
