In their latest video, two moms, Brandy and Susan of The Next Family, talk about that tricky subject that all prospective parents and parents must deal with — parenting styles. Straight away, the moms divulge that they have very different parenting styles which can be both beneficial and a struggle at times.
Susan describes her parenting style as a little tough love: “I’m a little lack of, ‘Oh, I think I might hurt their feelings.’ I’m like, ‘Just get up.'”
While Brandy says, “I’m not as really helicopter as I could be, but in comparison to this one over here, yeah, I might be a little bit more helicopter.”
The Next Family wants parents to know “it’s okay to have different styles in parenting.” Brandy notes, “The trick is finding that balance together to become good parents.”
The best advice the moms share — that they too received — was to “have a united front, even if you are completely opposite.”
“In front of the kids you want to have each other’s backs,” says Brandy. “And you want them to know that they cannot infiltrate the… force.”
Susan adds, “You also, I think, want respect from your kids and if you kind of knock each other down, then they don’t respect you because they know you’re not respecting each other.”
