Being a kid can be scary. Life is big and loud and sometimes hard to understand. People dressed as mascots, fake blood, and Halloween decorations are downright terrifying when you are less than four feet tall. How do you explain motion sensor witches to a toddler? How do you explain to children that ghosts are not real? Sometimes you don’t. You can talk until you are blue in the face, but if a child is afraid of something, there is little more you can do than provide a hug and avoid scenes that terrify him or her.
However, everyday life is something you and your child cannot avoid. What seems to be causing fear and panic in my kindergartner has nothing to do with zombies, masks, or monsters. According to Eva’s Instagram account, Halloween spookiness is the least of her worries. Her siblings, life’s reality, and the things I do to keep my sanity are the things that haunt her the most.
Here are 10 situations that terrify my daughter.
