Remember Justin Ruehs and Adam Smeets of Chicago? At the beginning of August we shared their story — they’re new dads to triplets, and in an astonishing twist, the children are biologically related to both fathers.
The fathers never expected that they would have triplets, and though they saved for their family — feeding, clothing, and diapering three children can get expensive, which is why a friend of the fathers, Autumn, wrote into Ellen asking for help:
“They are wonderful fathers who are struggling with the unexpected finances, but are ecstatic about their new family. Ellen, you have helped them get through so much. They watch your show every day and love your kindness and work you’ve done for the LGBT community.”
Ellen brought the two dads on the show and asked them why they chose surrogacy and how things were going such how they handled the vast amounts of diaper changing and how difficult it was to travel by plane with three children.
In an amazing show of love and support, Ellen promised to pay for all of the children’s diapers until they’re potty trained. She also gave them a few other goodies and surprises. Watch the video below to find out what they were:
