Mattel has done it again — released a wonderful ad that has us smiling! On Sunday, the company shared a video that features dads and daughters playing with Barbies together.
At the beginning of the ad, many of the dads explain how they are “a man’s man,” grew up with four brothers, or did “boy things” growing up. Now with daughters, though, they explain that their daily life generally gets interrupted with play time with her which usually involves playing with Barbies.
The different scenes depict the fathers and daughters playing “pretend” with Barbie in different ways — at the doctor’s office, as astronauts, as teachers, and more.
“These play moments were completely unscripted, so throughout the campaign you will see imaginations run wild, genuinely funny moments, and of course the sweet tender connections between these dads and their daughters,” said Krisitina Duncan, VP of global marketing communications at Barbie.
Knowing that these are genuine father-daughter duos having fun in their own homes makes for an even better video. But they send a more important message, as Barbie highlights at the end: “Time spent in her imaginary world is an investment in her real world.” It’s true, as there have been multiple studies that have found a father’s involvement in their daughter’s life can have extremely positive effects on her future, which is a good reminder for when your daughter wants you to play with her.
