We probably would have loved any TV show that Julie Andrews was a part of — I mean, it’s Julie Andrews. So when we came across her new Netflix children’s TV show called Julie’s Greenroom and discovered how packed it was with diversity, well, of course we fell in love with it.
Julie’s Greenroom features Julie Andrews as a teacher who teaches performing arts to a group of puppet children. We were too happy to see that the kids in the show come from racially diverse backgrounds and that one of the kids, Hank, is in a wheelchair. But we also just found out that another character, Riley, identifies as gender neutral.
Emma Walton Hamilton, Andrews’ daughter and Julie’s Greenroom co-creator, told the New York Times, “If pressed, we’d say that she’s a girl, but maybe not forever.” Riley is the puppet with red hair and glasses.
Amazing, right?!
On top of all that, the show has a lot of celebrity appearances like Alec Baldwin, Idina Menzel, Titus Burgess, Ellie Kemper, and Sara Bareilles.
