When it comes to having a family, parents often forget about themselves. We love being with our kids, don’t get me wrong, but as parents, we often forget that we were first a couple and that relationship matters too.
My wife and I are big proponents of date nights and taking vacations together as a couple, but sometimes we want a bit more than just a few hours together. On the other hand, it can be hard to book a babysitter or family member to watch our kids for a few days of vacation away. So we decided to do something a bit fun recently — a staycation!
Last week, my wife and I packed up and headed to the beach for an overnight staycation and it was phenomenal. Well, most of it. We did get mistaken for a “Mr.” and “Mrs.” by the hotel, unfortunately. It just goes to show you that there’s still a lot of marriage assumptions, even in the Los Angeles area. But we quickly looked past that and enjoyed each other’s company by the beach.
If you can’t plan a vacation in another city and a few hours a week isn’t enough for your relationship, plan a staycation. It will do wonders for your relationship!
