School started for our kids yesterday, but before the kiddos hit the books, we decided to take them on a last-minute vacation last week and it was wonderful. Somehow, with three kids, we have managed the art of traveling because each vacation just seems to get better and better.
My wife and I brought the family to a dude ranch that we visited last year. Horseback riding and the cowboy lifestyle isn’t part of our “norm,” so, we were so pleasantly surprised by how much fun we had at the dude ranch. We just had to revisit this year. My wife and I practiced our loping and trotting, the twins rode horses, the kids got cowboy boots, and we really enjoyed the outdoors.
But as with many of our vacations, there were some things that didn’t go as planned. We didn’t leave the dude ranch until 4 p.m. on our last day because a huge storm the night before flooded the roads. That, in turn, caused us to return to Los Angeles at 1 a.m. Yes, it was rough drive — for many reasons. You’ll have to watch our newest vlog to find out why. Let’s just say it involved rain, wind, and a scary 18-wheeler truck!
The good and the bad — we wouldn’t change a thing. Vacations are meant to be adventurous and unpredictable and it’s how you as parents work together to make it all work out. I’m happy to say that my wife and I did just that.
