Disney has my entire family smiling as of late. I mean, have you seen Coco?! The Disney XD Channel is offering a new princess story line and I couldn’t be more happier.
In a recent episode of “Star Vs. The Forces of Evil,” a lead character named Marco Diaz must assume a new identity as “Princess Turdina” as he goes undercover at St. Olga’s Reform School for Wayward Princesses in the hopes of saving them from the evil schoolmaster, Ms. Heinous.
Marco takes Ms. Henious head on, but when he does, she discovers that — gasp — he’s a boy. How? Because she finds a curly chest hair under his purple gown. Following this discovery is perhaps one of the best lines ever to be said on TV, by a princess in the crowd of onlookers:
“That doesn’t prove anything! Princesses can be hairy!”
So true!
Despite Ms. Heinous’ discovery, the princesses stand behind Marco with shouts like: “Yah, we believe in you, Turdina.”
The conversation then turns in a new direction in the show — who can be a princess? According to the princesses (and Disney by extension), anyone can be a princess.
“Why does it matter if he’s a boy? Nothing he said was wrong!” one princess exclaims.
Another says, “He can be a princess if he wants to.” Soon after, the princesses rally around cries of “free will!” and attack the evil schoolmaster and her minions.
It’s an awesome moment in the episode when we see children standing up for others. I can only imagine how such messages like this will spread through the minds of school children and hopefully create a new world where, yeah, anyone can be a princess.
