Bike Ride & Lunch with Meetup Group, The Southern California Gay and Lesbian Club (and Friends)
June 28, 2015 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pmFree
Join Meetup group, The Southern California Gay and Lesbian Club (and Friends), for a bike ride from North Hollywood Metro Station to Chinatown for Lunch.
The bike ride is very pleasant and is suitable for all bike riders who can ride at least 16 miles one way from North Hollywood to Chinatown on mostly flat terrain with a few rolling hills and underpasses at 12 to 15 miles per hour.
After lunch you can take the Metro back from Union Station (near Chinatown) to North Hollywood if you only want to ride your bike one way. If you want to ride your bike back to North Hollywood the bike ride is 33 miles roundtrip.
You must wear a bicycle helmet to ride with this bike group and be at least 18 years old to come on this bike ride.
When everyone arrives to Chinatown, lunch will occur at Hong Kong BBQ Chinese Restaurant (formerly known as Sam Woo Restaurant.)
Arrive at 8:00AM to park your car and get ready. Meet at 8:15AM on the Plaza above the Metro Station near the escalator entrance down to the station.
We will depart promptly at 8:30AM.
GETTING TO THE METRO STATION:
You can travel to the North Hollywood Metro Station starting point on your bicycle, on the bus, on the Metro, or by driving your car. There is free parking at the North Hollywood Metro Station. If you arrive by Metro, the North Hollywood Metro Station is at the north end of the Red Line. Please allow plenty of time for the Metro ride to the North Hollywood Metro Station since weekend schedules are limited.
From the North Hollywood Metro Station we will take a 16 mile leisurely bike ride to Chinatown. We ride our bikes from the North Hollywood Metro Station along the new Chandler Blvd. Bike Path going east. We then turn south on residential Keystone Street and turn east on Riverside Drive using the bike lane to the Los Angeles River Bike Path. We ride down the Los Angeles River Bike Path through the Elysian Park neighborhood where we re-enter Riverside Drive, go over a bridge and ride through a few downtown industrial streets to Chinatown.
BICYCLE RIDE TIME:
The bike ride will take around 1 hour and 30 minutes with a stop to use the restroom.
After lunch in Chinatown you can join us for the bike ride back to the North Hollywood Metro Station or return back to the North Hollywood Metro Station via the Red Line Metro Train from Union Station.
If you choose to ride your bicycle back to the North Hollywood Metro Station we will ride our bikes on the Los Angeles River Bike Path to Los Feliz Blvd. where we turn off to go through Griffith Park. We use the bike lane through Griffith Park past the beautiful golf course and the zoo. We continue on the bike lane on Zoo Dr. past the Travel Town Railroad Museum to Forest Lawn Drive. We continue on Forest Lawn Drive on the bike lane and make a sharp right on Barham Blvd. which turns into West Olive Ave. We turn north to ride down Pass Ave. and re-enter the Chandler Blvd. Bike Path west to the North Hollywood Metro Station.
